Amazing smile that brightened the room

I went to an 18th birthday party last night. The party was for a young girl who is the daughter of my oldest friend. This girl has a brain tumour. Its benign but it is resting on a part of her brain that has paralysed her. She is in a wheelchair , has a trachiotomy and has very nearly died several times, the last time being a couple of months ago.

Now, ive heard about this young lady through my friend many times but last night i finally got to meet her. I was met with the most enourmous smile that didnt leave her face all night, despite being stuck in that chair and not being able to talk, being wired up to tubes with a pipe coming out of her throat!

I have never seen such an amazing smile in my whole life!

I stood watching her being whizzed round the dancefloor in her chair by her carers. Made anything going on in my life seem pretty bloody trivial. I truly took a step back and thought just how lucky i am.

oh the dj played a song for her by someone called James something, an old track, about a girl with a smile, if anyone can tell me what it was, i would appreciate it.

Hi Jules, I have a wee tear in my eye reading your thread as I know exactly how you must have felt. We should count our blessings and will find that we have a lot more to be thankful for than we thnk.

just found that song on you tube haysi and it isnt the one, this was a real oldie. I thought he said james arthur but i cant find it on there. It just fitted her perfectly.

she really was amazing ya know. She shouldnt be here celebrating her 18th by all rights. She was never expected to live this long. Just now and again, someone comes along who makes you take a step back and think about your own life. Not just her, but her Mum and her brother who is 16 and barely left her side.
