This fourth week in the reign of Lady Alex continued in a more sedate fashion (scoring-wise), if not more cryptically with more than a hint of deviousness (choice-wise). I now reveal the pre-selected link words were:

Building SOCIETY
Mortar FIRE
PARA Site
ETON Mess

PARASITE is permitted since PARA is a word in its own right ~ and I had to research ETON MESS which is a dessert made from strawberries and cream mixed with crushed meringue! Very nice!

The game was to prove elusive with more consolidation taking place at the top-end and two entrants beginning to inch ahead!

Well, any apprehension I had regarding ETON MESS was dispelled immediately as ulysses100 was in as first caller at 09.02 to pick up TWO tasty POINTS. These same points were then on offer to anyone who could register the same link with a time of 09.04 (or earlier). In fact, Jools, devadiva & lysander obliged in quick succession to pick up precious bonus points and take us to Entrant #17 (all within four minutes of launch).

In the meantime, paulineward brought home BUILDING SOCIETY to open the way for a second option for bonus pointers which was cashed in by slaney! Both freebi2 & jan1956 lodged their predictions at 09.05 (just outside the two-minute window of opportunity). What a pity!

The game did not stay quiet for long, when at 09.06 Entrant #21 in the form of former champion evsajo came under heavy MORTAR FIRE to detect the third link. Even more amazing, another former champion wickedtongue picked off the devious PARA SITE to capture the final link word! No-one else spotted these last two links, so all credit to these last two AB-linkers.

The game then settled down to a steady trickle with Eton Mess and Building Society proving popular choices. The top score was TWO points throughout, so it is difficult to pick out one person for special mention. Nevertheless, I would like to name SHAZZA as someone who has scored consistently over the four weeks of March. Well done indeed!

How did the field shape up this week?
Well, most of last weeks leaders were again subdued ~ with catch-up played by slaney & ulysses100, but joto & lysander edging ahead!

The League Table after four weeks is:

NINE POINTS: joto & lysander
EIGHT POINTS: sarumite, slaney, Strix & ulysses100
SEVEN POINTS: kettledrum
FIVE POINTS: burgess, SHAZZA & gen2
Seven others have scored FOUR POINTS:

With only one week to go, the game is still wide open!
Thanks go to Lady Alex for yet another lively contest.
What will the last week bring?
Tune in next weekend and see.

Until then, this is crofter signing off for another week.
See you - Same time - Same place

Until then: HAPPY LINKING!

;o)
Well done everyone ! and a big thank you to crofter, especially for getting this post done tonight when everything is going so so slowly.

See you all next week with my last set of links.

Ladyalex
Congratulations to all who managed to score points.
We think it's a "Cultural" thing as we got a big fat zero this week again. Big fat zero all month actually.
What to do? What to do?
Thanks again Crofter for keeping score and thanks Lady Alex for the baffling words especially your Eton Mess - sounds delicious but never heard of it before.
Until next week when we wipe the board - Aufwiedersehn.
RATS - my bro-in-law went to Slough Grammar, as it is depreciatingly known by those who did not go there! So missed on the pudding.

Having posted COMPOsite I was immediately followed by PARAsite. RATS again.

I will not comment further on Her Maj's (Lady Alex) other two selections other than to say we have a Spanish friend staying who has brought a bottle of Pacharan (a.k.a. Patxaran in Basque country) and I am now, being in a profound sulk, heading towards it.

See you in the morn for KM links and, in the Shrubs, next Friday evening. Bring a bottle.
Ont-ice

jan
Thank you crofter for managing to post these results under adverse circumstances - that in itself deserves an ward, or at least a special mention in dispatches.

Thank you ladyalex for confounding me yet again - I thought I was on your wavelength at the start of the month but one of us seems to have lost the thread now.

Any chance of getting back to Abernethy Biscuits and Tayberries for next week?
Managed to score with mortar fire but why didn't I put Eton mess, it's one of the few sweets I can eat and had a lovely one about 2 weeks ago!!!!
Thanks to LadyAlex for choice of words and for Crofter working out the scores. Congrats to point scorers, all to play for next week!!!!
Thanks again ladyalex and crofter. Agree that you deserve a medal for even getting on here. I have been trying for what seems ages.
Well, I got one point but I am certainly out of the race for the championship. Well done to you high scorers - looks like next weeks contest will be a real nail biter.
Enjoy the rest of your Easter and avoid the snow.
Thanks for the recipe Strix. I really like the sound of that especially the dash of port.
Only just managed to get back on...after Sunday Lunch, that was it!!!

Well done to the scorers!...only managed one link! :-((
Well done Pauline, your correct link - BUILDING SOCIETY - was the only one I got - the difference was you got a bonus point for it as well.
Good luck for tomorrows KM game, I stand no chance, especially with GRAY'S ANATOMY !!!!!!
I tried logging on last night and got nowhere fast, so well done crofter for managing to get the results up and showing. There are a few of us in the scrum at the front so I look forward to doing battle one more time with ladyalex (I am certainly not on KM's wavelength this week !).
