hi Suzee I drink gold blend instant too and the nicest coffee machine grind i have found is Lavazza Rossa which comes sort of shrink wrapped into a brick shape from Tesco for only a couple of pounds. With real coffee make sure you let the water cool a bit before putting it through the ground beans otherwise you'll scald them and anything will taste bad after that! It also helps to keep the ground coffee in tupperware in the fridge.
Have a look at the Grumpy Mule site:

Unlike a lot of Fairtrade coffee these taste fab. They are a variety of different prices (some under 3) and they all have full descriptions of what the coffee tastes like, where it is grown etc so that you can try to match the flavours you like.

Thank you all for your answers, i am still a bit confused as to wether i have not got a decent machine or am i just getting the wrong coffee for My coffeemaker, Iv paid about 60 for a Delonghi maker with a expresso+cappacinno on one side, but havent really bothered with that side as the squirtty thingy is only 3inch of the work top, so once it squirts and fills the cup up youd have to tilt the cup on its side to get it bk out, so iv not bothered with that side. The other side is a drip type where you put the coffee in a mesh thing put water in the back and it drips in the jug, the last coffee i bourght was Dowegberts medium roast but that wasent much better, please keep the tips coming in thanx again x
