We're off to Crete this summer (Koutouloufari), and it's the first time we've holidayed in Europe for many years. Will we take Euros or the old Greek currency (that I can't remember - drachma?)? When we went to Croatia we were told to take Euros but when we got there, no-one used them except the big supermarkets and we had to change it again. Does Greece only use the Euro now, or will we be stuck if we stop at a small shop for a bottle of water and find they only use the Greek currency? Thanks for any advice!

All of Greece (the mainland, the islands, the big cities, the little villages, etc) uses only the Euro. Croatia is not in the Eurozone so you were given duff information on that one.

Speaking of duff, an anagram of 'gravitate' is a grave tit.
Euros everywhere in Greece and the Islands.

You must try the old town the poeple are really friendly . The best restaraunt in koutoulafari is Galiano, s it is a little bit more expensive but is well worth it the staff, service and food is outstanding greek tradition personified !

Anjlegs, thank you so much for that!! The personal experience makes this site so much better than Google. We're going on the recommendation of a friend who likes the same sort of holiday as we do, and you've just endorsed what he had said! Thanks very much X
