Eire courts and jurisdiction in UK

I have a friend who has a child who lives with the mother in Eire

He has always paid maintenance as awarded by the courts in Eire

Recently though the court more than doubled his payments,without considering his earnings details sent to a level he can't afford

I know that if a person lives outside the UK then our system through the CSA have no jurisdiction does anyone know what jurisdiction the Eire courts have to force someone to pay in the UK

This is important as he now has his own family to consider and under Irish law child support can be awarded until 23 years old - or even more if they are at college or University

Your friend needs to speak to a solicitor.

Having had a look around apparently there is a reciprocal agreement between the UK & the Republic of Ireland (this is what the natives call it) whereby a UK citizen can make an enforceable claim for maintenance in the Republic, it stands to reason that an Irish person can also make an enforceable claim against a UK citizen - your friend should try calling the CSA.
