Try National Hunt jockeys -- Peter Scudamore was notching up a lot of winners round that time.

Although I can't confirm a date Peter Scudamore reached his 1000th winner during the 1988-1989 National Hunt season. He had 221 winners that season ( which ends in April ) and had ridden 1062 by the end of it. I would suggest with 99.9% ceratiny that he is the jockey you want.
