Wisteria Not Flowering

We have a well established Wisteria that won't flower. It's growing on an East facing wall and it must get enough sun as it grows vigorously. We were told not to cut it back too hard as it flowers on last year's growth, so we haven't been. We don't understand why, in the 8 years we have lived here, it has only ever yielded about 4 flowers. Three years ago we got three flowers, last year we got one and this year none again. Everyone else in our village who has Wisteria has an abundant show of beautiful flowers every year. They are all looking stunning at the moment and I'm dead envious! I do seem to remember that ours flowers a little later than everyone else's, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of any flowers to come this year. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why that might be? Are there any plants that if grown close by might stop it flowering or do we have to add something to the soil? Any clues as to why we get few or no flowers would be much appreciated. I want ours to look as lovely as everyone else's always does. Help!!! What are we doing wrong?

Possibly down to pruning. Reduce the long growth to keep tidy as the summer goes on, but not right back to old wood, then in the winter trim back to 2 buds - that should get it flowering.

Thanks landscaper2. You are probably right. I've been reading some stuff online and it seems that we should have been keeping it cut back through the spring/summer. Maybe that is why we aren't getting flowers as, now you come to mention it, all the wisterias in the village that flower abundantly don't seem to be as dense in foliage as ours. I feel a bit dense myself now, lol!
