Has anyone done this week's TLS crossword? I'm stuck on 5ac (?O?L?S) and 22down (A?E?D). I'd be grateful for answers and explanations, please. I've exhausted all my aids.

Hi, Folks!
I have now discovered the answers. 5a is BOWLES, as in Paul, who wrote a story called 'The Pastor'.
22d is AMENDS. One Nathan Field wrote a comedy (1610) called 'Amends for Ladies'.

There's a character in The Power And The Glory, simply called The Priest and he's a " whiskey priest " who's fathered a son.

So if the pastor in the other story is particularly pious, then I suppose he would " hardly be the one portrayed by Greene "
