Phone numbers and old people

I phoned Mrs 4GS's grandparents last night, when her grandad answers the phone he always recites the phone number then says 'hello'.

I remember people used to do that years ago but thought the habit had died out.
Anyone else do this or know someone who does?

My parents taught me to as a kid - but we only had to say the town and a 4 digit number.

As my number grew longer over the years, I gave up and just say hello now.

I answer with 'Hi" because I can see who it is that's calling me. I have caller ID on my landline, if I don't know the number or it's withheld, I don't answer, they can leave a message if it's important.

Oh my , that takes me back john , my mother , rest her soul , always said the whole phone number every time she answered the phone , even family , bless her. :-) xxxxxxx

It makes me smile the number of people who have caller display on their phones and refuse to answer withheld numbers, yet automatically withhold their own number when calling.

If at work i answer with shop name.If on mobile its hola.If at home its hello madhouse.

Switchboard numbers are 'Withheld'...like ur bank or hospital.

They wont leave messages as they must make sure they're speaking to u!
