Meaning to be on the Captain's carpet for punishment rather than the normal disciplinary mode of a Ship's officer handing out minor punishments somewhere other than the Captain's cabin. It is not generally regarded as exclusively naval. I favour verbiphobe's 'keelhaul' (very sore on the family treasures)
