Should The Church of England become Disestablished ?

I ask this question because (1) Roman Catholics are discrimated against under the Act of Succession of 1701; (2) A Roman Catholic cannot become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and, (3) Selection of the Archbishop of Canterbury follows recommendation to the Monarch through advice of those who sit in the House of Lords, whether or not they have any Christian beliefs.

Get them out now. When we see 50% of the country in church on a Sunday morning they can come back.


PS surely it's only the royal family that is discriminated under (1) or are you planning a coup?

I think a Catholic can be prime minister but it's never happened (Blair never went there). It would be pretty awkward though

In order to promote some meaningful and serious debate, I have asked the original question because many people may recall that in 1987 the Church of England lost some �850m allegedly because of bad property investments yet the books were never opened to general public scrutiny. So did any money go towards financing arms to Israel through other channels the evidence of which is being examined by ongoing histrorical research ? At the same time, Terry Waite, special envoy to the Archbishop of Canterbury, was kidnapped in the Lebabon (any theories on this ??)

the Lebanese just kidnapped anyone they could get their hands on. Why Terry Waite, who's apparently about 8ft tall, thought it wouldn't happen to him, goodness knows, but I don't think there's much ground for conspiracy theories there.

For the rest, same answer as jake. Actually, I'm not sure why anyone has any right sitting in the House of Lords.
