lazy people

By looking in books and on the internet I usually manage to find 100% of the answers to the MOS prize crossword and only rarely,as a last resort do I ask on here.
I think this is a good idea but i also think there are many lazy people who cannot be bothered to look up the answers for themselves. Does anybody agree with this or am I being too critical?

I personally enjoy solving crosswords, quizzes and puzzles but can understand the frustration at not being able to complete one. At times like this, these Q&A sites are invaluable.
I can also understand that some people don't enjoy solving puzzles but would like to find the answers whether it be for their own curiosity or to enter a competition and again this site is ideal for those people. If that is how they choose to be then so be it, I have no problem with helping them if possible.

yes you are right. no you are not being critical.
there are many, many lazy people who want things but don't want to help themselves and work towards achieving them. you are 100% correct. i see simple homework questions a being asked almost every night. a simple google search and presto the answer is there. but, they are so lazy, they want everything handed down to them.
you are very correct about lazy folks on here.

Sort of. I like entering competitions with a prospective chance of winning. The fact is that some, take the Mail's Prize Crossword, is sometimes very tough and needs addn resource to complete. I see answerbank as an extension of that, just as much as looking up on the internet. Take the Sir Lancelot with it's cryptic clues - I usually ask how they arrived at the answer so that I can learn as the more times you do it, you get used to the mindset of the compiler, and I love working things out. And then again, sometimes I am in a rush and just need the answer, coming back to my point of competition.
So, to me, answerbank is another extension of my Sunday ritual. And when I sometimes beat those who reply by a mere matter of seconds, it gives me a slight kick.

I agree in a way, I can understand why people ask the answers to cryptic clues (that's why I registered here myself) , but I don't ask any questions to do with general knowledge, as it can usually be found out quicker by looking it up rather than typing the question!
However, I find this a quite sociable site (at times) and fun to see what questions people ask (and the replies people give).
I'm not going to criticise anyone who asks questions here, because I often need people's help! - and where else will I get the chance to feel superior on a Sunday morning when I get a question right! :-))
(PS yesterdays Telegraph GK crossword - Wading bird of Florida, Cuba and Jamaica with a wailing call, so named because of its gait (7) L _ M _ K _ N (oops!!) )

In summary, I think it's clear that people use this site for a miriad of reasons, so what's the harm? Those with negative opinion, well, just go away and don't bother us simple-minded folk that actually enjoy airing and sharing. There are other sites for you, and you could always write into the Times as "Disgruntled of Tonbridge" if that makes you feel better. Personally, I have my Sunday morning ritual and I enjoy being a member of this community, but giving and receiving help.
In all honesty I find it difficult to see the difference between copying your answer from Google or from this site. In each case it is necessary to type out the question and search through various answers. It surely doesn't make you either lazy or dim. I personally prefer this site because you see the same people over and over and can join in helping others if you are quick enough. Google annoys me because it is always trying to amend my spelling to the American version. "Do you mean COLOR?" No, if I meant that then I would type that. Sorry all, rant over. DM
