I'm very stuck on the bottom left hand corner of this puzzle, and wonder if some kind person could get me going again by giving me the answer to:

And if you were feeling particularly kind .... I've got all the 14 thematic clues (that have definitions given to us) and 7 out of the 8 extra words but can't see how to put them together. A hint would be very welcome. Thanks

Can't help any further as not familiar with this puzzle.

Each of the 14 needs to be paired up with another after a bit of Give and Take. The pair then conforms to one of the eight definitions. You will have one definition left over which governs a pair in the grid which must to be completed thematically.

That's roughly what I thought, Rapparee, but unfortunately the penny isn't dropping!

It's hard to get going on this I found. But the two celebrities stand out if you swap their initials. After that the ball should keep rolling.

I don't want to spoil anyone else's fun, but I don't think it would give away too much if I just checked that the extra words are found in 7a, 11a, 14a, 34a, 36a, 22d, 32d, & 35d.

And the words that I should be able to deduce are immediately beneath 16a & 36a.

For extra words you're close, but try 13d instead of 14a.
Deduced words are correct.

The penny is about to drop, I think. I've got the celebs, and 11a, but the ball has stopped rolling for the moment. (Lovely mixed metaphors!) I will give it some more thought in bed tonight.
