i think it is caltrap, thats what i've put in anyway
I think Caltrop is the favoured spelling, but Caltrap is a recognised alternative.

sarumite, if you see this, yes caltrop is the favoured spelling.
There is a branch of clan Drummond who have an estate in Hampshire and the shape of the caltrop (which they used so effectively against Edward II) is woven into their hall carpet!
