Drink Driving Penalties 1967

In a recent pub quiz, the question: What type of penalty was imposed for drink driving in the UK in 1967? Appeared. The answer was on of three, Fixed penalty (fine), imprisonment or driving ban? The answer was Fixed Penalty! This caused a bit of a stir... Can anyone confirm the answer?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I presume this is in relation to the Road Safety Act 1967 (enacted 9th Oct 1967) which introduced the breathalyser, a prescribed limit (defined as being more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood, or more than 107 mg in the case of a sample of urine) and crucially removed Judges' previously held discretion in sentencing i.e. the offence resulted in a mandatory one-year licence suspension.
