Do you think no5 might be Kirriemuir ?
J M Barrie, who wrote 'A Window in Thrums' was brought up in Kirrie....just a thought.
the only other definition of thrums that I am aware of is small pieces of wool for hooking into rugs and that doesn't seem very promising.
