I am unable to download the correct clues from the telegraph website, and there are several clues that do not fit the grid, eg 77a eggplant (9) = 76a(7) and 66d glaringly obvious =66d (5)
any help would be greatly appreciated

Oh well, you need some tippex then to make clues into the right number of letters:
76 (77) across begins two squares to the left
66 (67) down needs its sixth letter tippexing
15 (14) across needs its eighth letter tippexing
2 down needs its second letter tippexing.
I think the others are ok (except for wrong numbering of course)?

Regarding your problem reading the page - it is a .pdf file so you need Adobe Acrobat reader to view it.
Try the following:
Right-click on the link given by Catron and choose 'Save File As . . .'
Save the file to a folder on your hard drive then open up the folder and open the .pdf file that is in it.
