Marlboro Clue #59-Help! Hate to even ask but am stumped on this one or just not getting it. Have researched but apparently not in the right direction. Can anyone please lead me in the right direction? Thank-You Very Much?

They are talking about the quality of the hats. Hats with the most Xs is a better quality. For instance 3x,4x,5x,etc. (More Beaver felt)

i believe it to be money.  The more money one has the better quality hat they can buy.  I also seen beaver referred to money on various sites about cowboy slang, and general cowboy/west info.
