For reasons beyond telling and my control I didn't get the paper yesterday and wasn't able to pick up on your link until this afternoon. I've finished most of the grid and have the theme ( as was said to the actors before their performance ) but am struggling with both 9d and 10d. Any hints would be more than welcome. With 10d I think the original answer is an anagram of part of the clue + a word sounding like a synonym for splendid. If I'm,right about 25a, 28a and 31a the final entry is beyond me. I just can't get any purchase whatsoever on 9d.

As far as 9d is concerned, look at the clue, it is not thematic. starting to b<F>b falsify script (musical movement -o + e) definition!!

Have been pondering how to answer you for 10d, which is thematic. You are correct in your assumption about the anagram of part of the clue, (2 5) plus a phoenetic 5 letter non word splendid.

The final entry at 10d was a completely new one on me but I do crosswords for the joy of pitting my wits against those of the compiler and to learn something new. Any prizes which come along are a bonus.
