finding a film

I am trying to find a film based on a true story. It was set in the 80s or 90s and is a true story about a boy who was set alight by hes father. I think it was based in america and was about the boys fight for life in hospital and what he went through. at the end of the film it showed the real boy. As i say the film is quite old, my mother watched it on tv several years ago and wants to watch it again. i really hope someone can help me
