I would be pleased for confirmation that the answer is "deserted"
1d - bBut for the delivery (6) no letters yet but d????? if 1a is correct.

I was obviously on the wrong track but Ii must admit that I thought that the answer to 1 down was saving but I could not fathom 1 across.
