but not sure at all, why do you have sport?

I assume that to trifle with someone is the same as to sport with them A drop of port could be a spot but goodness knows where the r comes from. I submitted the crossword and it was accepted! Regards
drop of sherry = s
left = port
SPORT
v. To trifle. ``He sports with his own life.'' --Tillotson.

S = drop of S(herry)
+ PORT = left (eg port side on ship)
