Mass murderer

Does anyone know the story of the little girl (about 9 or 10 ) from England who was kidnapped while on her way to buy a loaf of bread and murdered by some notorious mass murderer? She took a shortcut through an alley way. Who was she murdered by? I thought it was the Moors murderers but apparently it wasn't.

Are you thinking about Christine Darby? About the time of the Moors Murders Raymond Lesley Morris murdered several children (convicted of one, but the others were attributed) by picking them up in his car, then taking them out to Cannock Chase and dumping them near the A34 strangled and raped. They were picked up from the Green Lane area of Bloxwich in the west midlands.

The other victims were Diane Tift and Margaret Reynolds (I think it was Reynolds)

if it is the 'cannock chase murders' that you mean, then the name definately was margaret reynolds. She was 6 years old when she was murdered and was a cousin of my mother's

Lesley Molseed, who was abducted and murdered on her way to buy a loaf of bread for her mum.  Stefan Kiszco was convicted for her 1976 murder, but cleared after spending 16 years in prison.  Forensic evidence which had not been disclosed to the defence proved he couldn't have been the murderer.  

He died just 18months after release, on the anniversay of his arrest.  This is perhapsthe most tragic miscarriage of justice in British history, and one of the very few for which it can confidently be said that the cleared man was definately innocent. 

The real murderer has never been identified, though the police have re-openned the case.  The officer who lead the original investigation was charged in relation to his conduct, but eventually never stood trial.
