If my memory serves me correctly, Dolores Umbridge was a DADA teacher, and also took over the school at one point, but Minerva McGonagall, who didn't teach DADA was temporary headmistress.
Hi Naomi, I know the letters are right as it is a crossword I am doing on the net; it is the only clue left, and I have searched the Potter site to no avail. Thanks for replying
. J.
I'm pretty sure there were no other temporary headmistresses, Jane. If you find an answer that fits in with what you already have, I'd be interested to know. I'm a real Harry Potter fan, and this is puzzling me.
Jane, there are so many posts in this section that when you come up with the answer I might miss it. Could you please leave a message for me in Religion & Spirituality - a sub-section of Society & Culture. I'll definitely catch it there. I'm truly bemused by this one. I thought I knew Harry Potter fairly well - but the answers I would have considered don't fit. I really want to know the answer to this. :o)
Gryffindor was the name one of the 'houses' at Hogwarts, named after one of the four founders - and he was a man who existed, according to the books, a very long time ago. I can't help thinking there's something wrong with the clue to this question, and that Jane may have something wrong in her answers.
Hi everyone, sorry if I have caused problems with this one. It is an error in the puzzle and Naomi was correct, Umbridge was the answer. All I can say now is Happy
Christmas everyone!. J.
