KM Links Game - December week 2
63 Answers
Good morning all, I'm still recovering from the effects of a very strange experience - I actually got wet yesterday walking around without an umbrella !!! I mean, why on earth would you need an umbrella in a climate like ours, particularly in summer - of course, where was the dang thing when I needed it, well not with me, that's just for starters !!! I'm still amazed by the whole experience !!!
And just before we really get down to tin tacks - next weekend may [ I emphasise may [!!]] be a little off beat, unexpected, possibly right out in left field - Mr seekeerz, myself and the two holy terriers are off to Melbourne to spend Christmas with our daughter - now she has acquired a new computer with a whole lot of bells and whistles I know nothing about so if for some strange reason the thread makes no appearance about the usual time, please feel free to carry on without me and I'll try to catch up somewhere down the line - good luck !!
OK, the reason we're all here - well most of us anyway - is to try and match wits, brains, whatever...with Kate Mepham and her shaded words in this morning's Crossword - shortly one of the early risers will post those words along with their own selections, for all of us to add our own interpretations and boy, some of those need some explaining - one paticularly unusual one from last week - Mole Sauce !!! ???? Now my guess is that the 'mole' in this case isn't small grey and fond of digging up lawns, but a dish [?] of Mexican origin, though I do not know the contents, so I'd better go investigate while I/we await said 'early riser' ..... so I'll just toddle off for a bit and come back later S
Oh, just before I go, Good Luck everyone if I'm still stuck down a mole hole when the fun starts

Right now, regarding Tearinghair's request - tricky situation this one and I will have to consult the oracle - while some have the advantage of seeing the Crossword before putting an entry in, some of us either don't get it at all and some [like myself] don't receive it until after I've put mine in.
I'm certain my match won't be correct, but that's just tough luck for me, and it is random up to a point, but that clue is quite specific - let me get back to you all on that one.

OK, everyone, I'd better retire gracefully. I'd been watching the competition for several weeks, and thought I understood what was happening, but obviously not. I absolutely don't want to cause any controversy among people who've been doing this for ages, so I'll stop now before it gets out of hand. Many apologies, and best of luck for future competitions.
tearinghair please don't take it to heart - for starters it is all just for fun but yes those who see the Crossword do have a slight advantage. As I said, I don't see the puzzle before I post my entry and it doesn't worry me. There really is no reason why anyone cannot change their selection - we're trying to match Kate's choices so everyone has as much a chance of making the right one.
Usually the clues aren't as specific as that particular one and I would have put something different had I seen it earlier, but going on my past record - well snowballs in hot places have something to do with it !!!
So please reconsider - we don't like anyone to be upset or feel they should pull out, .... as the saying goes 'we aren't playing for sheep stations here !!!'
tearinghair - it is largely guesswork. I virtually never see the Telegraph until after I have submitted my link words, indeed I am only now at 2.30pm about to get the paper.
As seekeerz says it's not a matter of life and death, just a stupid game with no purpose other than to propose the most obvious or most abstruse link words you can think of!

never having seen the crossword in the Telegraph I had assumed that the link words were completely random. It is certainly not a matter of life or death and my query was intended to be light-hearted ('cotton picking' not really being indicative of any particularly strong passion). I'm not apologising but I shall be more guarded in future. D.
