I have some more questions for all you intelligent lot!
The answers are ships/boats lost at sea. I am no good at these HELP!!

1) Is the top of the steel hull, partly, the only sign to be seen in 1939? (6)

2) A free grasp is what she thought she had, though far from home (4,4)

3) Mac rime reminds, a bit, of early American South (8)

4) Look a Mowhawk in half an eye and see a pearl perhaps (8)
