Well it didn't fit the letter pattern that was given:
- - a - i - m

I hadn't come across this meaning before. I only ever came across the word paradigm as meaning:

" A set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline". Paradigm shifts etc

Well it didn't fit the letter pattern that was given:
- - a - i - m


It was an 8 letter word, according to the question. So I assumed that there was a missing "-" somewhere.
