Hi, Just wondered if i could get an opinion on what to do next.
My OH just rang to say someone just went into the back of his stationary car at a red traffic light- the other person failed to stop in time as was lookng the other way.

The other driver stopped to give his name and address and my OH took his reg number.

There apparently doesnt look to be any damage to OH's car, however i' of the opinion its better to get it checked to make sure.
I think OH should tell his insurance company what happened and the other drivers details regardless, and then get the car checked.

Any other thoughts?

get the car checked first, then if there is damage report it,if no damage dont report it,because if you report it the insurance company will put it down as a accident against you even if there is no damage and even if it were not your fault,so get it checked first.
Tell your insurance company - it is one of the conditions of your insurance that you do.I am assuming your OH has COmprehensive cover If their insurer has an approved repairer take it to them and get it checked out - otherwise use your own garage. If there is no damage it should not affect your insurance in the future - if there is damage then you can leave it to your insurance company to put it right (over and above any excess you may have which you can reclaim from the Third Party). Good Luck - if you have a broker use them !!

I deal with quite a lot of claims and it is saddeninghow many seemingly straighforward claims can turn awkward - you would be amazed at the number of folks who say one thing at the scene and then phone their insurers a tell ties e.g. "they reversed/rolled back into me" - its best to tell your insurer straightaway then at least you are seen to be straightforward and honest.
The other two are dead right. Someone hit the back of my wife's Nissan, not much damaged but reported it anyway. It was taken away and has come back a new car. dO IT NOW!
