watching major sports events on telly

Years ago I was well chuffed off to have to subscribe to Sky Sports in order to watch major events, particularly soccer matches, I wanted to watch. But I reluctantly did so. Nowadays, so many of the big soccer games are on Setanta Sports for which another subscription is required. How can I be sure if I sign up to them, another paid-for Sports Channel will not emerge? Besides, I gather many people subscribing to Setanta have experienced problems. Pain in the behind all this, dontcha think?
