Unpaid cheque from Abbey - cheque not received

We have had a debit on our account for a retuned cheque - one we paid in. We paid a number of cheques in and are unsure who the drawer is. The cheque has not been received in post after 3 weeks and despite numerous calls to Abbey they say they do not have the information. They claim that their unpaid system is behind and we will receive the cheque eventually. Has anybody else had this problem?

i suggest you use a proper bank (of the 'clearing' type),

transactions with abbey take too long,

have you ever been into a branch and thought 'oh dear four people in the queue, thats thirty minutes wait'?,
