I guess we'll soon be able to add him to all these other people who knew for certain that the world was going to end: http://www.religioustolerance.org/end_wrl2.htm

I can, without a doubt confirm as you say, that something bad might happen in the future. Fortunately this is quite likely to be balanced by something good happening, either before or after the bad thing. Possibly. But one persons good thing is often another persons bad thing.
Let me give you an example.
Sir Fred Godwin got earnings in the region of 4.2m in 2007. To him, this was a very good thing indeed. His wife was happy as well.
At around about the same time, he (RBS) made approximately 18,000 people redundant and repossessed about 5,000 homes. For these people this was a very bad thing.
The world wont end, Earth that is. Human existence might, but the world will remain in some form, probably uninhabitable for a few years.

Well, if he's right, there's not much point in worrying about the world's economic problems, or anything else. Apart from that have you asked yourself how he knows? The simple answer is he doesn't. I shouldn't take too much notice of what people like him say. He's earning a very good living from it and is no doubt saving his pennies for his future retirement.
