This is probably the biggest scandal of modern times, so take a deep breath and prepare yourselves.

The UK, Sweden and Denmark are members of the EU but they are not part of the common currency.

Nevertheless some euro coins have a map of Europe on them in which those three countries are included!!

Can this be right? What would the French say if we had a map of France on our one-pound coins or fivers?

Yes, I knew you'd be taken aback when this was pointed out. Most British people are.

When you've recovered your composure, what are we going to do about it?

Yes but they are part of the EU and the notes are celebrating the EU not the Euro.

You analogy is flawed because the French Euro depicts all of Europe and not just the UK.

I think if the French Euro had a map of just the UK on it they'd be rather perplexed.

Mind you don't we have french Honi soit qui mal y pense and German Ich Dien on ours?

OK I've recovered my composure what shall we do?

Well we could join the Euro that'd put things right

But it doesn't really matter does it? We're all Europeans now.

The most recent design incorporates a generic map of Europe which includes Switzerland, the Balkan states and parts of Norway, Russia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. There are also non-EU member states such as Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City that have their own Euro coins.

Some Euro coins (1c, 2c, 5c) also show the continents of Africa and Asia.

Pah! I knew some of you would make excuses! The wretched coins have no right to 'depict the whole of Europe' because they represent only that part of Europe which is in the common currency.

Wait till they start including the USA! Huh! There'll be trouble then!

And if they're doing it against the day when we join the euro then they're going to have a long wait. Oh yes!

Damned foreigners! How dare they try to include us on their Monopoly money!

Now some wimp is going to say that the euro is doing better than the pound at the moment. Yes, but only for a moment, you'll see. You'll see!
A map of Europe with some countries missing would look very strange. Mind you, it wouldn't be the first time the EU have done it - see here.
Some people worry themselves sick watching the (minute) ant on the pavement at their feet, while the elephant comes up behind them and threatens to flatten them! LOL
Is this a new itch to scratch chakka!

It was always a posing question, even by the Scandinavins, who felt that the depiction of their region was rather akin to a flacid willy and test tickle..

Surely for that, they should remain on the coins?
The Armenian flag has Mount Ararat on it. But they lost the mountain to Turkey after the First World War. So the Turks protest the same way as you do: How dare you have something on your flag that isn't even in your territory?

The Armenians reply: 'You've got the moon on yours.'

Come on Chakka

Have a nice strong espresso and sit down and embrace your inner European - you know you want to
I should think he is too busy sewing a little circle of gold stars onto a blue bed sheet so he can hang it from his bedroom window, jake.

Oh dear,I thought that my frivolous rant would produce some really witty replies to lighten the prevailing gloom.

I might have known that ,as usual, the subject of the EU is mind-numbing.

I'll try something else.
(What do you mean - please don't, chakka? How rude!)

Good picture there, Octavius, and what's this about espresso, Jake? That's a European drink, don't you know?

No, a good old gin-and-tonic for me. Lovely gin from --er- Geneva, what county is that in? And tonic from, well, India maybe, but it was British once. All right all right, the lemon comes from Spain, I grant you, but where does the water to make the ice come from,eh? A definitely British tap! Aha!
Actually your taps are more than likely to have been made in Italy, and depending on where you live, your water supply may well be controlled by Suez Lyonnais des Eaux and Vivendi (aka, those darn Frenchies), or possibly (not sure) RWE (aka, those darn Germans).

In fact in this whole picture the only British thing I see, is probably you. Its all very European.
Question Author
Grrr,Octavius. Just 'cos you're right, you think you're everyone. Huh!
Actually are you even British?

Are you sure you are not a descendant of a famous Mongolian?
the euro has fallen back against the pound. It was nearly at par before Christmas, now it's nowhere near.
Question Author
Khan't understand that, Octavius.
