Looks like there's a bar missing in 13ac. but this destroys symmetry?

I have not tried to solve the puzzle yet, but are you sure it is not just a typo error - a (9) not an (8) as printed?
Dont know the puzzle, but could it be symmetric.

Just a thought!

Clue is "Caribou, note, trudging in flipping grass (8)"
trudging is the extra word, and I reckon answer is REINDEER
=RE(note)+IN+DEER(flipping grass). If you could make REINDEERS fit the clue (possible plural of REINDEER), which it could be, since Caribou may also be plural, then (8) might be a misprint. Hope that makes some sort of sense? I can't make REINDEERS fit the wordplay.
Question Author
Should have added that REINDEERS does fit the grid!
The similar thing seems to have happened at 29A. The clue is Stop a huge racket (5). I've put the answer down as abate (with huge being the extra word) a bat would fit in with the clue but where does the extra e come from in the wordplay? There must be something in the preamble to be worked out for these strange clues.
Perhaps this is the "theme at 21" which is "twice applied"?
Question Author
29ac is AVAST
puzzled272, you are so right. Thanks. I was certainly on the wrong track there! Still don't completely understand 13A.
Having finished it now I can confirm that the grid is printed correctly

In 13a the (8) is a misprint. It should be (9).

I don't like the clue at all.
