Plz help figure out the title of this book!

I read a book in the 80s when I was a kid about an English girl who's trying to solve a mystery concerning the identity of her father. Her grandmother is involved, and the girl often walks through a churchyard and mentions the vicar. I remember something about a note in purple ink being slipped under a door. I had remembered the title as Black Hearts at Battersea but after reading online descriptions of that book realized I was way off. Any ideas?
