Standing ticket at concert, how does it work?

Thanks to Buenchico I recently purchased tickets to see Depeche Mode in concert. They are standing floor tickets so no number assigned. How does this system work on the day? Is it on a first-come-first served basis that determines where you end up on the floor? It may be that a lower tier seat ticket would provide a better view than a standing view at the end of the floor!

Should I basically camp outside the arena overnight? Or just push my way through when the doors open?

This sounds like a Ryanair scrum for seats. Me not like!
I find that people sit/stand on the floor quite close to the front but then as soon as the gig starts and the artist comes on, they all push forwards!

Right at the front can be quite uncomfortable, around the middle is usually ok as long as you aren't standing behind someone taller than yourself!

That reminds me, a friend of mine managed to push her way to the front at an INXS gig years ago. Unfortunately the bouncers thought she was being squashed up aganst the barriers so pulled her over and let her back in right at the back!! She was protesting loudly but they said it was for her own good :-)
