Billy The Kid

How old was Billy the Kid when he was killed by Pat Garrett, this came up at a pub quiz last night but I had to answer a call of nature when the answers were read out and no one else could remember.

Untrue. William Henry McCarty was born around 1860 or 1861, the exact date and year are unknown. In 1873 his mother married William Antrim, and to avoid 2 Billies in the house changed his name to Henry McCarty Antrim, and from thereon he was known as Henry. Later again Henry changed his name to William Bonney, and from thereon his friends called him "Kid". Billy the Kid was shot dead by Pat Garrett  at midnight on July 14, 1881. He was either 19 or 20 years old when he died.

He was 20 thats why its a myth that he killed 21 people by the time he was 21.

No. His date of birth is unknown as I have said, and he was either 19 or 20 years of age when killed. Billy the Kid single handedly shot and killed four men and participated in five other shootings.
