I know that I am slow on the uptake but still cannot work this one out from hints received. Passport is what I was thinking but should the answer not be plural?

Action here means the sort you would take in a court of law. The whole is something a traveller would take, for example, on holiday

and its an a angram of first word and a word for 'in the style of'

Hope I'm not too late to try to help out ladyalex. It is the name of an Australian tennis player, first name a very well known cartoon postman, surname 2 syllables, first syllable is a type of boat made from logs.

Got it now, at least I've got the name of the tennis player and it does contain an item that you would find in the house. I'm not seeing the 'part exchanged' bit of the clue, though......just seen it as I type, thanks again everyone. :-))
