6 DOWN Pericles

P (Quiet) Eric (Boy) Les (The French) = PERICLES, Prince of Tyre (Shakepeare play)

Not sure where the 'gradualism' bit comes in.

11 ACROSS Skeptic

Moore, a philosopher, wrote on Scepticism
The US spelling is sKeptic, so I'm assuming this is where the Missouri comes in

Confirmation would be appreciated.

NOW TO MY OWN PUZZLEMENT...

13 ACROSS They had a dream in Edgar's piece

I have TE_N_ (5) The only real solution is TERNS - do these birds have a dream in something by Poe - excuse my ignorance, but confirmation would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I think 7 down Sceptic refers to the idiomatic expression "from Missouri" meaning skeptical, however Moore used the spelling "sceptic" so it's not obvious whether the US or UK spelling is correct for this answer.

The answer to 13 ac could also been "teens", but I'm not at all convinced....

I think "Teendreams", a play by David Edgar might rpovide the answer...
Thanks P Coles. I'll run with the US spelling - perhaps they'll accept either. The David Edgar option looks convincing.
The poet Tom Moore wrote a poem called "The Sceptic" around 1808.
