Cannot puzzle out 8a) Herb's noisy occasion(5)?H?M?

The only word I can think of that fits is 'THYME' (a herb), but if so why?

Because it sounds like TIME - a time is an occasion.
I hate it when compilers use 'noisy' for homophones - so inaccurate!

jontee. I was going to add my bit about noisy meaning sounds like in crossword parlance but it has already been explained to you.
johntree I was about to point out that noisy was a convention word for sounds like in crossword parlance but someone else has explained it to you.
