Does anyone know title or author of this fictional book?

I read a book quite a few years ago and I am trying to remember its title or the author.

The main character was being followed by a strange man. Her best friend was from a large family who were either Russian or Jewish (can't remember!) and I think she was a lawyer. Her best friend began a relationship with a much older man and had a younger sister named Anya who was being bullied at school.

Think the main character eventually ended up with best friends brother??
