The curious case of the early-morning gypsy

For about the last 6 months or so I`ve been going to my local Tesco at 7.30 am. On one occasion I noticed an unusual kind of person who stuck out so much so that the few people who were there at that time, and also one of the Tesco staff, would take quick glances at her. This person is seemingly unaware of the image she portrays. I`ve never seen her look at anyone else. She wanders slowly up and down the aisles gently turning her head this way and that as if looking for something. I`ve never seen her bend over a cabinet or pick anything out.

SHE is very swarthy, with dark skin, large Roman nose, brown, leather Indian style flip flops, long flowing gypsy-style skirt and top, maybe old scruffy jacket, big, heavy scarf covering all her hair and forehead, usually both hands in her pockets. Picture a Rumanian refugee.

First time I saw her, I`m ashamed to say, I thought possibly she was a would-be shop-lifter. But I see her every week at the same time and my cirousity knows no bounds as to who she is. I noticed that she has a male companion, a bit better dressed, who is usually in the next aisle with few items in his trolley.

NOW, last week, for the first time I saw them together, heads bent over the trolley, talking softly. I went to the side of them (bona fide action!) and, listening in, had the biggest shock I`ve had in many a year when the most dulcet, aristocratic voice speaking beautiful Queen`s English that might put the Queen Mum in the shade, came from her, surely someone of a high pedigree!

Help! How can my curiosity be assuaged? Should it? Any reasonable suggestions will be accepted.

OK, let`s be truthful. I`d like to see any of you under the same circs. every week and NOT be curious.
SNAGS: You`d have to be brain-dead NOT to judge this book in some way.
DEN; I wish she were a ghost, easier to accept.
LIL: How can I speak to her if I don`t know her? I do have some friendly banter with shoppers who smile and are receptive, but not this one who looks straight ahead.

Could they be store detectives? Not at time of the morning.
I suppose I could change my day and time of shopping.
