Not sure exactly what the invention is, but it's something to do with telecommunications.

Gauss dealt with magnetic flux; Weber dealt with magnetic flux; Cooke was one of the founders of the Eastern Telegraph Company; Wheatstone was once a business partner of Cooke and invented, among other things, an automatic telegraphy system in which signals are transmitted from a perforated tape and recorded after being received as dots and dashes on a second tape.

Yes, that was all one sentence and I believe the answer is Telegraphy.
