Aprilia Motorbike problems: still in warranty
Husband has an Aprilia 1000cc bike (against my better judgement!). It went it some months back for its first service and the garage managed to do something that caused the whole engine to seize up. So back the bike goes and the bike shop/garage say that Aprilia wouldnt provide a new engine and so they rebuilt the engine instead. We think this is odd as we think that garage did something that caused the engine to seize and they didnt want to pay for the new engine from Aprilia.
The bike was in repair for MONTHS and eventually after losing his temper with them he got it back.
Engine was a little funny sounding. A bit rattley and oil light came on. So back it went again for the next service and for checking over.
Bike came back and oil light is on AGAIN so back tot he shop for testing now.
Bike is still in warranty but only for 3 weeks.
What advice can anyone give?
To be honest we want to get our money back now - but if we sell it we have to declare its engine has been rebuilt and think that would put buyers off.
Can we get our money back from the bike shop/garage?
We could do with the extra money and Husband is totally fed up of the Aprilia spending more time in repair than being driven

How sure are you that the 'problem' was definitely due to the first service?
You probably have good grounds to get a refund as 'the goods were not of merchantable quality" but quite a time has gone by.
Contact Aprilia directly and explain what has gone on and also confirm that the garage contacted Aprilia. The garage may not want Aprilia to know that they were incompetent.
I hope you get a good result without resorting to temper.
Cheers, Andy

i do not see why you would have to declare an engine re build
this is not any help to you but i bought an aprilia last year and will never buy another,i sold it after 6 months, that is i used it for about 3 months and it was in for repairs for the other 3 months
i have had dozens of bikes over the years and always fancied an aprilia but after my experience i would never ever have another
stick to the jap stuff, they are a lot more refined and a hundred times more reliable
that bike would have cost me a fortune in tow in fees were it not for the fact that i had a trailer and a lovely wife who would bring the trailer to me wherever i had broken down,,,it became a standing joke with my kids as to how far i would get every time i went out in it
not a lot of help to you but "get rid of it"

The garage have called and confirmed that yes there is a problem with the engine.. and its still within warranty which is good. I think we have to let them try to repair it before we insist on refund but they know we are seriously not happy. He has spent the whole time running it in in the time he has owned it.
Apparently Aprilia customer service is poor too and they only accept emails from garages re problems so we could be in for a wait
