Longest odds in sporting event

What is the biggest outsider ever to win a sporting event? So far I've got the 1981 English Ashes team which were 500-1 at one point and Ben Curtis when he won the Open was 250-1

There used to be a quiz question a few years back - "What does Tony Meo have in common with the racehorse Theodore, which won the St Leger in the 1830s?" The answer was that they jointly held the record for having the highest starting odds for the winner of a major sporting event in Britain. The horse had won the St Leger at 200-1 and Tony Meo won the British Open Snooker championship (I think) in the early 1980s at the same odds. If the Ben Curtis odds were 250-1 it looks like he's now on his own as the record holder. Presumably the England odds were not 500-1 at the start.
