I'm looking into engagement rings and need some advice. I have a style in mind already (a simple and elegant white metal band with diamond inlay), but want to know whether platinum or white gold is going to hold up better over time. Which metal would you say is better in terms of maintenance and wear compared to the other? I've heard platinum is more durable than white gold, but want some more specific info than that. For those who are married, which type of metal is your ring and what has your experience with it been so far? Thank you in advance.
Platinum's wear- and tarnish-resistance characteristics are well suited for making fine jewelry. Platinum is more precious than gold or silver. Platinum possesses high resistance to chemical attack.
i have had my white gold engagement ring for 9 years and over that time it has scratched and discoloured. I had it re-rhodiumed which brought it up perfect, but cost 40 pounds and worst of all i had to send it away via the jewellers and i didnt want to not wear it for 2 weeks.
If i were chosing again, and i had the money, i would go for platinum
