NAUCH for 23 down

What is 26 across?
Question Author
Maidof Steel for 26a I had abreast but obviously that is wrong
Sorry there are alternative spellings of 23 down and I should have written NATCH
Question Author
I know there are alternative spellings but what is your source for this as I cannot find?
It is Chambers Twentieth Century Dictionary and under NAUTCH it gives NACH and NATCH as alternative spellings.

I find the compiler tends to use this source or it would appear so.

That said the meaning of ABREAST as in the clue is not in there!!
