Nearly there with last week's EV. Have got the clash in the grid and the instruction formed by redundant letters but don't understand "five lines to break up the two misspelt words". Please can anyone point me in the right direction.
I'm also puzzling over four last clues.
1d African people curse returning truck (5) looks like BANTU (bane less the e) but don't understand 'truck' bit.
10d Scratches are reduced in northern pools (7) looks like STREAKS but can't see why.
21a Girl in Cardiff is native of Sicily (4) I've got SIAN but don't get the 'native of Sicily' bit.
34d American president is leaving society; a rum type (5) I've got TAFIA (type of rum) but don't know where American president fits in.
Any help would be most appreciated - the first time I've attempted an EV puzzle.

1d, curse is BAN, the truck is a UTE, so BAN-(E)TU with extra E.
10d, can't remember what the wordplay was! Sorry.
21a, native of Sicily is a SICAN, so SIAN with extra C
34d, the American President is Taft, IS less Society plus A gives TAF(T)IA with the T extraneous.

Thank you so much for your help, dr b. I have now completed it. On checking my ODQ, I realised the significance of the two misspelt words.
Thanks too for inviting me to join the weekly EV thread. As already explained in a separate post to Devadolly, I'm not an S.Tel regular but might be tempted to become one after this taste of EV.
