Does anyone else find the arrows pointing the previous and next questions confusing? I have a First Class Honours Degree in Information Systems and did my thesis on Human-Computer Interaction and it is my opinion that they should be pointing in the opposite directions,

No I don't find them confusing.Arrows to the previous question point left (as in back) and arrows to the next question point right (as in forward). Why would that be confusing?
No, I don't find them confusing but I find them fairly pointless. They are needless clutter. It is perfectly simple to click to the full list from the side menu and get the full list.
why is it confusing? One points to the next question and one points to the previous question, WTF is confusing about that? Where did you get this mickey mouse degree?
I don't find it confusing, but it clearly seems to be a feature without a benefit.
My previous 'modus operandi' was to return one step from being in a question thread, back to the list of 20 questions in that section. Then I can scan several at a time, and shift up or down onto those that might be of interest, before entering one.
Going back or forward one at a time seems pointless.
we read left to right therefore the previous is left and the next is right. However the question is displayed in the reverse order. I can see why you think it looks wrong but to a true IT person it is compltely logical. Sorry mate if you can't see that then the old busy bee is duffer.
No but I find those avators on the left completely unnecessary and without any decent design form

As you have a Degree, would you care to explain WHY the arrows are pointing in the wrong directions?

R1Geezer – I can assure you that it is not a Mickey Mouse degree an enables me to live a comfortable life style.

dancairo – look at the top-left of whatever browser that you are using and you will see the convention for previous and forward navigation. As R1Geezer quire rightly pointed out we read from left to right and so previous is to the left and next is to the right. It’s like placing the numerals on your clock-face anti-clockwise.

TCL-MUMPING – I have no idea, sorry.

Have a look at Sports Pub Chat to see how the navigation on this site used to be.
We read left to right but would if you looked at a road sign directing you to go left for example you would see an arrow followed by the destination ie
