In short - my mothers house is being done up as the last tennants have just left. My husband looks after it for her. An auctioneer in our village wants an empty house for an auction and wants to rent the house for a week/2 weeks - not sure, - before we do it up. My question is - is this acceptable to do in a residential area? No CB I know - but some of the serious sections make me nervous and I bite when I'm attacked LOL.

at the right price for a short let......take a £5k refundable deposit - he may destroy it, who knows?
what is he auctioning that takes 2 weeks peri? how would it work on the house insurance?

That a good question dot - he does household and fine art auctions. He let the house for us last time and will do again this time - maybe even sell it for us eventually so he is solid and my husband knows him well. Will bring up question of insurance and deposit.
If he is auctioning fine art and other valuables, he will need his own insurance, and he will likely need either a nightwatchman or a burglar alarm fitted and working to meet his policy requirements.

I dont know if he will move stuff in and out in a day - maybe that will be the case. He had a premises up till a year ago but sort of semi retired and sold premises and probably works out of his own house now.

What about the neighbours - could they object ?
yes they could, especially over noise and parking. your local authority could also get involved over change of use too, but Irish law may be different to here peri, on farms an auction can be held without any issue if it is stuff from the actual property holding the auction, but bringing goods in to auction in a private home may be a different thing

Thats what I thought. The road is a cul de sac but there is a car park beside a community centre at the end of it so parking would not be a problem. A lot of questions to be asked though - thanks for your knowledge
