MM Links Solutions October 2009 [Week 2]

This posting is well over an hour too earlier, but I am scheduled to have a family meal soon at a local restaurant to celebrate my coming of age, and there are times when AB must come second! Should any of our regulars spot this, then it may prove necessary to post something at 7.00pm to direct others to this message!

The launch of the second week in the reign of “Queen Christiana the Cheerful” went as smoothly as ever, although the subject matter may have come as an even greater surprise. Her Cheerfulness certainly had “An Unusual Childhood” and chose as her links the following:

London PRIDE
Photo FINISH
BRASS Monkey
Parrot COAL

I must confess that I had to look up “Parrot Coal” ~ as coal that “chatters” as it burns ~ but it was well referenced in the preamble!

Once again, not an easy set of links and the start was exactly as last week in that the first five entrants couldn’t raise a single point between them! It fell to beejay (AGAIN) to be the first to suggest the popular LONDON PRIDE for TWO POINTS and he was followed by a fairly lengthy list of early hits on the same line of thought. Aquagilty, Dustybun, lysander, fordward, pauline and slaney were each bursting with London Pride for Two Points.

The next to fall was PHOTO FINISH which went to Entrant #19 in the form of x-ray (with his Superman vision) to pick up the second set of TWO POINTS. However, five entrants later brought the mighty wickedtongue at 12.02 onto the scene with the third hit of BRASS MONKEY (trust him) together with London Pride AND Photo Finish to score an impressive FOUR POINTS. There can be no doubt that this ex-super champion qualifies as HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK!

*** The crowds go wild and shout “Encore” ***

For the remainder of the game, there was the occasional single hit, but I was beginning to despair over the very last link. That was until the very end of proceedings, when twix123 opened his account as Entrant #37 with the “chattering” PARROT COAL ~ an utterly surprising prediction!

Once again, not a great scoring round, but plenty to be getting on with!

Thanks to both. No points for me again, and I'm off to California on Thursday to see the family - last time was 18 months ago so I'm sure the grandsons will have changed beyond recognition. Is this a five-week month? If so, I still have chance to break my duck at the end of the month. If not, I shall have the dubious distinction of having gone from winner in August to setter in September to nul point in October! There's an interesting series....
